Where You Can Find a Great Cup of Coffee in Nanaimo

There is nothing better than starting off the day with a solid cup of joe – am I right? Here is a round-up of great independent coffee shops in Nanaimo that offer coffee and a great atmosphere.

The Buzz Coffee House

Buzz Coffee is where I frequent the most – it’s closest to home, offers great coffee and I love their bright and open space. They also offer small treats and if you are looking to meet with a larger group, you can reserve a meeting room in the back. My expert advice: try their soy lavender latte !

The Vault Cafe

The Vault is located in a gorgeous open, aired, heritage building right in downtown Nanaimo. Adorned with local art on the walls and draped in vintage and eclectic decor, it’s more likely place you’ll find creatives working on their laptops during the day.  The Vault has a full kitchen offering an all-day breakfast plus lunch and dinner items. At night, they often host bands and other events offering a fully licensed bar.

Javawocky Coffee House

Ideally located right in our beautiful Nanaimo harbour is Javawocky coffee. Javawocky is a small and quaint coffee shop that also serves a variety of baked good. In summer you can sit in the sun outside and take in the hustle and bustle of people, boats and float planes coming in and out of the harbour. In winter, it’s a great meeting place to get out of the rain and read that paper or catch up with a friend. Heck, take another one to-go if you feel like walking the seawall!

Regard

Regard Coffee is a quaint coffee shop located in a plaza off Bowen Road.  Driven from a passion for good quality coffee, Regard prides themselves on finding green coffee from quality producers and importers.  They’ve done a good job too – their coffee pleases the biggest coffee elitists. You can also purchase their coffee beans to roast at home and read up all about the producer on their website.

Gulf Islands Roasting Co.

Good news if you work downtown Nanaimo: there is another option for coffee! Tucked away on Cliff St (down the street from White Sails) you will find this quaint little coffee shop. Here’s another coffee shop owner choosing to serve quality coffee from organic, non-gmo seeds! If you do want to take that coffee break, there are two big booths to site down and enjoy your cup.

I’ll also leave you with this fantastic video from Gulf Islands Coffee… you’re welcome

Central Van Isle started from a instagram account with the simple idea of curating the best content from locals as a way to showcase and discover one another. This site has the same vein. Please go to the contact page if you'd like to contribute!
